Enter the world of Serbian art from the 18th to the 20th century in the Chronology of Serbian Art module and observe how and in what way national artistic trends changed over the three centuries of Serbian cultural history.
How did artistic elements such as color, line and form shape the understanding of the work of art? Find out through the Transformability of Art module how and in what way individual artistic elements are considered through artistic and historical transformations in Serbian art.
The museum corner for the youngest, but also for everyone else, is designed as an interactive space in which educational programs are conducted. The children’s room, in addition to its interactive function, also presents the history of childhood through visual arts.
The Sculptophilia module is an exhibition space with sculptures, which presents the diversity of the collection of sculptural works in the collection of The Gallery of Matica srpska through several units.
Through the depictions of the private and public spheres of the home in the Sanctuaries: Man and his Surroundings module, discover how fine art represents man’s refuge, and how depictions of nature in the fine works of Serbian art show the other side of this phenomenon.
In the module Taboo: Body and Mind, human characteristics such as nudity, death, feelings and identity are presented, which often represent a taboo in our society. The history of modern Serbian art presents the ways, needs and beliefs that shape these phenomena and our everyday life.
The Pleasure: Rituals and Habits module provides insights into how representations of everyday life and dining from the past to the present day. The culture of drinking wine, ways of dressing and conducting daily activities form our culture down to the tiniest parts. Individual works of art represent how life was lived and enjoyed in the past and how it differs today.
